Bone grafting helps to improve the strength of your jaw.
Dental bone grafting can help to improve the appearance of your smile.
The procedure can help reduce any pain that you may be experiencing.
Are you looking for a solution to your missing or damaged teeth? Dental implants are one of the most popular choices for people seeking to replace their teeth. But first, you may need a bone graft. If you have lost bone in your jaw due to periodontal disease, an injury, or tooth loss, you may not have enough bone to support dental implants. A bone graft can help to build up your bone so that you are a candidate for dental implants. At the Oral Surgery Center of Lighthouse Point, our oral surgeons are experienced when it comes to performing bone grafting procedures to help our patients achieve their goal of healthy, beautiful smiles.
Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that replaces missing bone in order to repair bone fractures that are not able to heal properly on their own. The bone used for the graft can either be taken from another part of the patient's body (autograft), or from a donor (allograft). Bone grafting is often necessary in order to prepare the site for dental implants.
There are several signs that you may need bone grafting in order to get dental implants, including:
You have been told by your dentist or oral surgeon that you do not have enough bone to support dental implants
Your jawbone has begun to shrink due to tooth loss
You have suffered an injury to your jawbone
You have been diagnosed with periodontal disease
Prior to your bone grafting procedure, our oral surgeon will take x-rays and 3D scans of your mouth in order to determine the best course of treatment.
Once it is determined that you are a candidate for bone grafting, the next step is to schedule your surgery. The following will then occur:
On the day of your surgery, you will be given either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.
Our oral surgeon will make an incision in the area where the bone graft is needed and place the bone graft material. The grafting material will then be covered with a collagen membrane and the incision will be closed with stitches.
After your surgery, you will be taken to a recovery area where you will be closely monitored. Once you are awake and have recovered from the anesthesia, you will be able to go home. Our oral surgeon will give you specific instructions for aftercare.
If you are missing teeth and are considering dental implants, contact the Oral Surgery Center of Lighthouse Point
today to schedule a consultation. During your consultation, our oral surgeon will perform a thorough examination of your mouth and jawbone and let you know if bone grafting is necessary. We look forward to helping you achieve a healthy, beautiful smile!
